How does one start their very first blog post?  I had the idea to start a blog, I sat down to write my first post, and then, BAM, writer’s block hit.  Of course…

So I thought, do I think my friends will want to see fashion ideas first? Food ideas?  How do I start?  What do I even write for a headline?  Questions and questions…but my mind was blank…

Then my thought was “Well, you’ve got to introduce yourself, people need to know you.”  “It’s your first blog post, so introduce yourself.”  I know you can read the About Me, which, please do, you’ll find out my basic info but it’s more fun when you learn random facts about someone.  So….here you go…

The Top 10 Random Facts about Joelle

1. Shoes are a weakness.

  • I love shoes.  Shoes totally top off an outfit.  I love wearing high heels…tall high heels most of all.  The absolute best is when I find a good deal on a pair of cute heels.  I have a black and brown pair in all the basics.  Boots-yep, I’ve got heels and flats, black and brown.  Running shoes-I’ve got some for running when it’s raining and some for when it’s not.  Booties and wedges-black and neutral both, other colors, you’ve got to be ready for all seasons.  Cowboy boots-check, shoes to teach in-check, Adidas sneakers-check, Skechers sneakers when I don’t want to wear my favorite Adidas and get the Adidas wet or dirty-check. I could keep listing but I think you’re probably getting the idea.  My all-time favorite pair…well, I can’t really cut it down to one so my all-time favorite pairs are:  my paint splatter Toms and my Barbie pink wedges.

2. Pink is my favorite color.

  • When I go shopping, I’m drawn to anything pink.  When I get my nails done, they’re usually pink.  Some of my favorite pieces of clothing are pink and one of my favorite coffee mugs is pink with strawberries.
One of my favorite dresses and my paint splatter Tom

3. Strawberries are my favorite fruit.

  • I love strawberries pretty much any way they come.  I love them fresh.  My favorite pie is my mom’s strawberry pie.  I love them on ice cream or in a shake.  If I see something that says strawberry, it’s likely I’m going to be trying it.  I have a sweater with strawberries on it and like I said before a mug with strawberries on it.  Strawberries=yummy deliciousness!

4. Olives are a big NO for me.

  • Sorry to all of you who love them but… it’s a no from me. When I hear the word olives my mind says-”Yuck!” I pick them off everything.  Why?  They just taste weird, almost dirty.  If they are on pizza, you’ll see a big ol’ pile of olives to the side.  If they’re in a salad, I’ll do what I can to scoop around them or I just won’t eat it.  So…if you don’t want me to eat something add some olives and I’ll avoid it.

5. My fourth and fifth fingers were fused together on both hands when I was born.

  • Yes, you read that right.  What does that mean?  Well…it means that my ring finger and pinky finger were stuck together when I was born.  I had them surgically separated when I was one year old.  Apparently it is a hereditary gene-one that is similar to webbed fingers or toes.  Come to find out my grandpa on my dad’s side had webbed toes.  He always wore shoes so no one ever knew a thing about it.  My ring finger has a slightly different shape due to the separation of my fingers when I was a baby and I’ve got the scars between my fingers too.
You can see the scars, and notice the pink nails.

6. Balance is not my friend.

  • I’m not kidding…balance is NOT my friend.  I have no ability to balance.  Zero. None. Nada. Zilch.  It’s legit.  It’s called “The Powell Balance”.  I’m sure you’re wondering what I mean by “The Powell Balance”.  Buckle in friends for a small story.  My mom’s maiden name is Powell.  Well, if you’ve got Powell in you, you’re going to have bad balance.  It’s true.  We all tend to fall over, run into things, can’t walk in a straight line, can’t stand on one foot, yup, all of that.  Ask anyone in the fam, my sister, my cousins, my mom, my aunt…even my grandma…they will tell you it’s a Powell thing.  You will see me stumble, run into things, wobble… I mean basically anything that requires balance is a struggle.  My sis, cousin and I have a saying “Embrace the Powell.”  So if you see me stumbling…don’t mind me, I’m just embracing the Powell in me.  HA!

7. I’m a Marvel nerd.

  • Now, it’s not the dress-up, attend Comic-Con kind of nerd but if you ask me about something in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…I’ll start going on and you’ll think I’m crazy.   My cat is named Bucky but his nickname is White Wolf.  Now if you are a Marvel fan you get it.  If not, get ready to be…well…I’ll say impressed.  Bucky is a yellow cat with white on his stomach and feet.  He is named after Bucky Barnes from Captain America.  And to spare you the long story about how Bucky Barnes became the Winter Soldier because he was brainwashed by Hydra and then was healed by the people of Wakanda who gave him the name White Wolf, I’ll just tell you, I named my cat Bucky and his nickname is White Wolf.  I could tell you about naming the projector in my classroom Wanda, the MimioTeach is named Vision and the speaker in my room Steve but I think I’ve given evidence that I’m an MCU nerd.

8. I have no athletic ability besides running.

  • My athletic abilities do not extend any further than being a runner.  I can run, that is it.  If you see me try any other sport I look like a floppy, confused giraffe. I’m not coordinated.  I can’t move with fluidity.  I can’t throw. I can’t catch.   I can’t hit.  I can only run.  I tried pole vaulting in high school.  I thought it was super fun actually, but I was not good at it.  The only athletic thing I can do is run.  Period.

9. My feet are always cold.

  • Yes, I have cold feet.  Always.  I can not go barefoot in my house.  Except I don’t wear socks when I sleep…I know, weird, right?  Anyway, when I wear sandals in the summer, my feet still get cold.  So sometimes, I really don’t mind wearing socks and sneakers with my summer outfits.  In the winter, sometimes I double up my socks because my feet get so cold.  So there is that random fact…I always have cold feet and to add to that, I hate cold feet.

10. This is scary to me.

  • Yes, I’m excited to do this.  Write, share, blog.  But…y’all…IT IS SCARY!  Taking a step out into something new.  Hoping people are a part of this journey with you and worrying that this isn’t going to be successful.  It’s a real and honest feeling.  However…if you don’t try, if you don’t jump in, if you just sit there and say it won’t work, then you’ve given up before you’ve even started.  So, friends, here I am, starting something new, jumping in, scary feelings and all!
