If you know me, then you know that I love watching baseball. There are times that I’ve been asked if I could do anything else other than being a teacher, what would I be? Well, my honest answer is that I would be a baseball analyst. I could talk about baseball all day long. I would love to travel and watch baseball all season long. So sometimes people wonder, why? Why do you love baseball so much? Impact-Site-Verification: c4c09d39-ecdc-48a1-a2a6-c846529fc763
Some people believe it is boring. Some people think it is such a long game. I can see why people think that, but to me, it isn’t. This isn’t a post to convince you to become a baseball fan or that baseball is the best sport, this is just a post that will tell you why I love baseball.
Baseball is America’s Pastime
Baseball has so much history! Really, Joelle….that is what you are starting with? History? Well, you’ve got to start somewhere. HA! There is a serious, interesting history in baseball. From Hall of Fame players like Babe Ruth, Stan Musical, Bob Gibson, and Lou Gehrig to iconic announcers like Jack Buck, Vin Scully, and Harry Caray. Then you have the history of the Negro Leagues and the impact players like Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, and Hank Aaron made in the game of baseball. Yes, there is so much history in the game of baseball, and when you see these players who have changed the game throughout generations how can you not get a bit sentimental about the game? If you are ever in Kansas City, you should visit the Negro Leagues Museum!
Baseball is Exciting!
The game of baseball is a very exciting one. Now, this is not me trying to convince those who think it’s so boring otherwise. I’m telling you why I think watching a two-plus hour nine-inning game can be exhilarating. Sometimes you have your slug fests and then you have your pitchers’ duals. Both are equally exciting, especially if your team is on the winning end. LOL!
When you hear that crack of the bat, and the ball flies out of the park there is nothing as exciting! Especially, when it is a clutch situation. Then you have your small ball. Your favorite players are hitting singles, doubles, or triples down the line or a bloop hit that brings in a tying or go-ahead run. It is really exciting! The ballpark comes alive and there is a buzz among the fans.
Then there are your pitchers’ duals… Those are your low-scoring games with very few hits from either team. Your pitchers are hitting their targets and getting the batters to swing and strike out, fly out, or ground out. Sometimes it comes down to who scores the one run off the closer in a nothing-nothing game in the bottom of the ninth.
Both kinds of games are exciting to watch, well, and all the other ones in between!

One great thing about baseball is the opportunity to travel. Kayla and I are currently on a quest to visit every MLB park. There are 30 parks across North America. Although we’ve only visited five so far, we’ve had the best time traveling to the places we have visited. You get to visit new places, meet new people, and see teams you might not normally get to see.
Each place we go, we take a stadium tour to see behind the scenes at each place. It really has been so fun and interesting! I recommend stadium tours to anyone who is on the same quest! People ask which has been the best place and right now, I’d have to say Seattle has been one of the best. The energy of the ballpark, the fans, the tour, it was great!
Then if you consider Minor League ballparks, that opens even more options of places to visit. The cool thing about the minor leagues is that those guys are working to make their way up to the majors so they play hard to make their mark.
We have a local Double-A team and Kayla and I have season tickets. We have seen a lot of guys come through that have made it to the majors! It really is cool to see where they started and where they are going. Player development is what the Minors are all about.

The Postseason
There is nothing like postseason baseball. Even if your team isn’t in the postseason, you can’t help but watch. Teams play through October in hopes of becoming the best team in MLB of the year. The players are hungry and boy, the games are exciting! Cool, fall nights at the ballpark are some of the best games you could be at! The energy of the ballpark is like no other and you are on the edge of your seat waiting for that clutch hit or the big strike out.
There you have it…
So, there you have it, just a few reasons why baseball is my favorite sport. It’s a great game! It is fun and exciting to watch. You get the opportunity to visit so many different places and you can wear some cute outfits. It’s a historic game. Finally, it’s a long season and there is nothing like October baseball.
You may agree, you may disagree, but I love the game of baseball. It brings me joy!
So what brings you joy? Whether it’s baseball or not, find something that brings you joy!
Have a good one!
-Joelle
